Big Sis is desperate for a kitten. With the quiet tenacity of a 3 year old she finds a way to put her case every day. Today Dog ran through our front gate onto the road. I called him back and chastised him - Big Sis seized the moment!
“He could get squashed by a car if he runs on the road, couldn’t he mummy?”
“Yes, he could we all have to be careful of roads!”
“If he got squashed would he be dead?”
“He might be, or he might be hurt and we’d have to take him to the vet”
“I know! If he went on the road and got squashed and died we could go to the pet shop and get a kitten!”
Poor, faithful Dog. In his accommodating labrador ways he’s adjusted to so much! Twice, without consultation, we’ve bought home a tiny, helpless bundle who has taken prize position as most important being in the house. These little tyrants take all the attention, Dog is immediately on starvation rations as far as big walks and ball throwing is concerned as everyone spends their time gazing at and carrying around the newest little emperor.
But it gets worse, they grow and develop in ways he couldn’t imagine only to ride on is back, pull his tail and put small grubby fingers up his nose and in his eyes. Then, at last some light at the end of the tunnel when they reach a stage where they can throw a ball and they lose interest - demanding a cat!
But, not to worry Dog, DSO and I are standing firm - there is no cat on the horizon yet! But, while we are on the subject, we have been meaning to speak to you about some changes coming about - sometime late in September…
