The Halfway Mark!

Tertia
My 20 week ultrasound went really well! All the right bits appeared in all the right places - so now we are halfway there, and all the bub and I need to do is grow bigger!

Big Sis and Little Bro accompanied DSO and I to the appointment. Half way through I mentally took my hat off to those parents who have their other children in for the birth of a baby! Big Sis’ interest lasted about 5 minutes while the ultrasound took 40 - we then had commentary/attempts to divert the proceedings along the following lines:

“It’s taking a very long time!”
“Is the baby wearing a skirt?”
“Can I have a yo yo biscuit from the shop downstairs if I’m a good girl?”
“Do they have toys in there?”
“Why is it dark?”
“That looks like the Easter Bunny, will the baby eat chocolate?”

Meanwhile Little Bro decided all he wanted to do in the world was open and close a cupboard door. This was a problem as :

a) the contents weren’t kid safe; and
b) the noise was clearly irritating the ultrasound technician.

As DSO commented later, it was different to the other 20 week ultrasounds we’ve attended together where we get to hold hands and quietly wonder at the miracle before our eyes!

If the kids were at the birth I can imagine listening (between contractions) to Big Sis discussing the contents of the chip machine in the corridor outside. Little Bro would, no doubt, find lots to explore in the medical machinery surrounding him.

“No - Little Bro, leave the fetal monitor on mummy’s tummy please!”
