Well, it’s official - Big Sis is a Preschooler and she loves it!
I believe I was supposed to feel sad/emotional on the first day of what I suppose is the beginning of Big Sis’ independent life! Strangely I just felt proud. Particularly when Big Sis walked straight over to the teacher and said “Have you got pasting? And also can you take my shoes off?”.
The teacher duly directed her to the craft area and explained that she could take her own shoes off and put them back on again, which to my surprise she managed!
I left at that juncture and returned a little later to find her playing happily and introducing herself to as many kids as she could manage. I swear if they had Head Prefect elections at 3 year old Kinder Big Sis would be the first to nominate herself.
She was fairly scant on the details on the way home and I tried not to badger her - I read in a “prepare your kid for school/pre school article” that you should avoid doing this - but let me tell you it’s very very hard!
However, after some thought she did confide 2 things. Firstly, the play dough was a bit old, you could still play with it but it was really a bit old! The second was delivered in a stage whisper with a look of sympathy on her face - she didn’t think the teacher knew how to take shoes off and put them on again!
