A trap for young players - Queensland does not have daylight savings. The signifigance of this may not be apparent right away, and perhaps it’s not important unless you have a 1 year old and a 3 year old. Big Sis and Little Bro woke up every morning at 5am! We tried everything - putting them to bed later, putting them to bed earlier, threats, bribes, separating them, nothing helped.
The result was a fantastic 2 weeks on the Sunshine Coast, with most of my extended family, which was absolutely exhausting. It was like competing in an endurance event, by the end I felt like we had walked the Kokoda trail rather than sat on a beach for 2 weeks!
The only thing we didn’t try to make the situation better was go to bed earlier ourselves. The problem is that both DSO and I seem to be gentically programmed to be absolutely unable to resist conversation, food and beer/wine. I do not joke, we are like a couple of goldfish swimming around the bowl - drinking, eating and talking are responses we cannot switch off.
If the holiday had continued past Day 14 I am sure we would have kept going until we physically collapsed and an ambulance came and took us away, to somewhere safe where the food is bad and no wine is allowed after 9pm.
We loved the house it was right on a fantastic and quiet beach, just a short walk through the rainforest gardens to the sand. Big Sis thought there were tigers in there and insisted on always taking her tiger stick with her in case she needed to defend herself - her big cousin would hide behind ferns and growl at her - magic!
