Glitter, glitter everywhere

Big Sis’ love affair with glitter began shortly after her second birthday. Actually, it was a love affair with craft. She’d run through the house yelling, “I do craft right now!”. The thing was, it wasn’t craft without glitter……

There are an amazing range of glitter products available these days (refer to post about $2 shops); glitter glue, traditional glitter in a shaker, glitter body paint, large bits of confetti glitter shaped like angels but very much like glitter and so on.

The issue with glitter from the parental perspective is its “pervasiveness”. By this I mean that it gets everywhere! I thought I had the glitter play well supervised and coralled to a small corner of the lounge room yesterday, but today I have discovered it in my breakfast cereal, on the hairbrush, through Big Sis’ clothes and in her bed, on the dogs tail and most tellingly in Little Bro’s nappy! It’s an interesting and unusual substance that can pass through a babies digestive tract and come out in exactly the same state it went in.

It wasn’t like I didn’t know about glitter - in my BK days it used to feature at the occasional dance party. Often sometime on Tuesday in the middle of a presentation in front of 20 people, or a serious meeting with clients a piece would reappear right next to your nose, glinting in the sunshine.

I can tell at this point that glitter and I are to be comrades for life, my only question is how will it appear in the future phases of my life? Perhaps they will force me to do glitter craft in the old peoples home?

Miss M’s favorite dress two years ago was a glitter covered pink affair. She wore it at Xmas at my parent’s house, and they’re still finding sparkly bits around the place now.
