Bedtime Medley

Big Sis loves songs at bedtime. We do songs after the stories, right before sleep. She doesn’t sing along these days - she’s like the Song Master, she barks out a tune title and you sing it to her and make sure you sing it right! If incy wincy spider climbs a water pipe rather water spout you are sent right back to the beginning. She’s also very particular about the actions as well, so make sure those hands (stars) are twinkling to the Play School standard or there will be trouble!

I’ve tried at times to appeal her decisions, and to her credit she will hear you out - but be completely unmoved. Apparently, Bah Bah Black-sheep bequeaths wool to a little boy and under no circumstances a little girl and Alice the Camel always starts out with 4 humps!

Tonight reached a new level of ridiculousness as she tried out a new medley format where before one song was finished she would bark out the title of the next and I would oblige by leaping into the new one like some kind of demented nursery rhyme stage show.

Little Bro observes the show with some glee and occasional hand clapping - and it suddenly occurred to me that this is what a little brother is for - give him 6 months and he’ll make sure all those songs are messed up!

I’ll be interested to hear what happens when she moves onto more complex songs like Jack and Jill, and what kind of medical treatment Jack will require. Defibri-mil-ation perhaps?
